The Bardolino area is located in the morainic amphitheatre of Lake Garda, Veneto shore. Mediterranean climate and hilly landscape characterise the production area of Bardolino DOC and Bardolino Superiore DOCG wines, based on Corvina Veronese and Rondinella.

Chiaretto di Bardolino is the wine type that drives the denomination. Its name refers to its very light pink colour and the oldest evidence of the term 'chiaretto' is found in the Veronese edition of the Accademia della Crusca dictionary of 1806.
